Head of Supply at Maven
Job Description
Head of Supply
Maven is looking for a hands-on leader to recruit, support, and develop the instructors who power our platform. Today, our 300+ instructors collectively drive over $25M in course sales and are the primary growth driver for our business. As Head of Supply, you will 10x our instructor base, and lead a team that manages their onboarding, retention, and success. Your team will provide instructors with the support and community they need to grow their audience and earnings. Overall, you will be the final owner of our ability to scale our supply of successful courses.
We are committed to having a small team (currently 17 total), so you need to effectively balance being a visionary and an operator, actively engaging in day-to-day tasks to keep initiatives moving forward. This role reports to the CEO, will manage an existing team of 3, and is on the executive team.
Role Overview
Your primary goal is to design the strategy and build the system that will 10x the number of successful Maven instructors. These are high-powered executives, experienced operators and successful consultants who make $50K-$5M teaching on Maven. You’ll decide which verticals to focus on, how to evaluate supply quality, what our acquisition priorities should be, and how/when/why we should expand the instructor personas we target.
Your scope includes four areas:
- Instructor Marketing: Today we do very little inbound marketing. Collaborating with our marketing team, you’ll create a strategy to drive instructor awareness, interest, and high-quality inbound leads, at scale. There is no current headcount here, though you can hire someone in the future.
- Instructor Recruitment: This is our current supply strategy; you will step in to audit and assess the status, and own the operations and approach going forward. You and your team will learn about the top tier players in the market, identify the targets, develop and execute an updated outreach strategy. You’ll be one of Maven’s top closers alongside the CEO, directly engaging when needed.
- Instructor Onboarding: Many senior professionals would love to diversify their income streams with a 6-figure course business. Not all professionals have the hustle, patience, domain knowledge, credibility, and motivation that it takes to actually launch a successful course business. This is the part of the funnel with the most drop-off as launching your first cohort is the hardest part (after that, retention is outstanding). You will collaborate cross-functionally to solve this business-critical challenge.
- Instructor Success and Support: You and your team will cultivate an instructor community, foster loyalty and a sense of belonging in an elite network. You’ll design efficient ways to help all instructors improve their course sales, at scale. You will also oversee both customer and instructor support, ensuring we’re responsive and effective in assisting instructors, and that our product continues to evolve to meet their needs.
Key Skills
- Executive Presence: Serve as a direct point of contact for instructors in pivotal moments, across sales, reengagement, support, and retention. You should be comfortable directly working with instructors, building relationships, and holding the room with gravitas.
- Systems Thinking: Manage and optimize all supply-side processes and operations. You’ll build and oversee inbound and outbound pipelines, refine workflows, discover and solve bottlenecks, and be the ultimate owner of our ability to scale our supply of revenue generating courses.
- Team Building: Hire and mentor talent, growing and empowering a team that may expand to 6-10 over the next couple of years. You’ll help build a culture of execution and strategic insight, aligning with Maven’s ethos of maintaining high-impact, lean operations.
- Strategy Development: You'll be one of 5 members of the leadership team, which means you will have a voice in GTM, product, business operations, and marketplace policy (balancing friction and incentives between supply and demand). You won't just manage your own function and team, you’ll also influence the direction, bets, risks, and outcomes of the entire company.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in Supply-Side Marketplaces or GM Roles: You have a track record of leading successful operations in a high-growth and product-led setting, ideally a marketplace.
- Strategic & Operational Insight: You understand the balance between executing today and planning for tomorrow. You think ahead, spotting opportunities and adapting process, strategy, and resourcing as Maven grows.
- High Standard of Excellence: You set high standards for yourself and your team, ensuring every interaction and process represents Maven’s brand and quality. You maintain an A-level work ethic and look to bring others to that level as a player-coach.
- Hands-On Approach: Maven is lean by design. You’re a doer who isn’t afraid to get into the weeds, helping with tasks that drive the business forward, from individual instructor outreach to pipeline management. This could mean writing an email series, answering questions from top instructors, or getting on sales calls with our top prospects.
Details
- Compensation: Our expected offer for this role is $250K and 1%. We can see that changing depending on the person we meet.
- Reporting: This role reports directly to the CEO/Co-Founder and sits on Maven’s leadership team, contributing to company-wide strategy and vision.
Who We Are
Maven is building the university of tomorrow, starting with a marketplace of expert-led, cohort-based courses. With a proven model that yields high student engagement and retention, we’re positioned to transform online education. We’re a small, nimble team that’s deeply committed to supporting our instructors and learners as we continue to grow.
If you’re ready to build the future of education, we’d love to hear from you.
