What do we need
SnapGene is the most user-friendly molecular biology software available, trusted by thousands of research organizations globally to conduct cutting edge research and used for experimental design, preventing common errors, visualization and tracking of lab work.
We are looking for a creative, motivated full stack software developer to support our continually growing user base by bringing innovative tools to the molecular biology community. You will help us continually expand and improve SnapGene: a cross-platform desktop application built using C++ / Qt to provide a rich, responsive interface for scientists to accurately plan and test their experiments at the molecular level.
If you have a passion for user-friendly software, an interest in developing cutting-edge tools, and a desire to help accelerate scientific discovery and medical breakthroughs, this is the job for you. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong background building both front-end and back-end code, and experience with modern C++ development.
In this role you will get to
- Develop and maintain SnapGene in C++ / Qt with a commitment to clean, modular and reliable code
- Collaborate with a fully distributed development team that is dedicated to providing the best user experience
- Iterate on designs to combine intelligent architecture with advanced algorithms to solve complex challenges
- Work with a cross-functional team, taking on testing, documentation and support when needed.
- Work on all aspects of the product from development of new functionality to maintenance and build systems
- Actively improve our development processes and make customer-lead decisions.
We are looking for people who have a Bachelor degree in computer science or equivalent work experience with at least 3 years experience in C++ & developing object oriented software. You will be able to demonstrate your passion, experience and analytical skills, and attention to detail.
The key skills we are looking for
- C++ with experience with modern language enhancements in C++17 and later
- Strong understanding of design patterns and object-oriented programming
- Knowledge of data structures, architecture with advanced algorithms
- GUI Development: Experience working with a UI toolkit (Qt preferred) including creating custom controls
- Ability to design and implement user-friendly, performant UI components
- Working Knowledge of cross-platform development (Windows/macOS/Linux)
- Experience in writing and performing tests
You may also have
- Version Control: Experience with Git, branching, and submitting pull requests
- Knowledge of Bash, Python, Cmake or Conan
- Familiar with Jira, Confluence, CLion, Figma, Cmake, Conan
- Knowledge of molecular biology, while not required, is beneficial. We have biologists on the team who can share their domain experience.
- Experience developing cloud-based services
