As an Engineering Manager at Civica, you will be a hands-on “player-coach”. Your primary responsibility will be to manage a team of software engineers, taking ownership of both the team’s happiness and their delivery efforts. You’ll also be hands on as an individual contributor, and work with your team to ensure the best technical outcomes. If you enjoy both leadership and technical elements of software engineering, this role would be a great fit. Â
Key Responsibilities:Â
- Hire, build and manage a team of successful & happy software engineersÂ
- Enabling your team for success, ensuring delivery of high-quality products to our customersÂ
- Embody good engineering culture, and drive great behaviours in your teamÂ
- Design, develop, deploy and maintain software productsÂ
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to identify requirements and develop technical solutionsÂ
- Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and improving the overall quality of our engineering outputÂ
- Troubleshoot complex issues using log analysis, profiling tools, and collaborative debugging techniquesÂ
- Contribute to documentation and decisions on team processes and toolsÂ
- Implement continuous integration & continuous deployment pipelines for automated testing, build, and deployment processes
Requirements
You will be an experienced Engineering Manager who posses the following skills:Â
- Experience in recruiting, coaching and mentoring software engineersÂ
- Deep knowledge of modern software development practices such as agile development, continuous delivery, automated testing, security, and observabilityÂ
- Expertise implementing engineering metrics to drive quality and performanceÂ
- Comfortable with ambiguity, and able to create clarity for your teamÂ
- Proficient in writing high-quality, readable, secure, and maintainable codeÂ
- Strong understanding of computer science concepts, data structures, and algorithmsÂ
- Strong knowledge of testing principles and practices; experience writing and automating testsÂ
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure)Â
- Knowledge of observability practices (logging, metrics, tracing) and monitoring toolsÂ
- Understanding of security best practices and secure coding principles
- Experienced working in dynamic, fast-evolving environments.
- Ability to lead teams through change with clarity and confidence
- Skilled at collaborating across disciplines, from Product and Design to Delivery and Customer teams, ensuring alignment, removing blockers, and driving outcomes that serve the bigger picture.
