Director of Engineering, Cloud at Neo4j

The Team:

Neo4j, the global leader in graph databases, is looking for a Director of Engineering - Cloud to help take our growing engineering team to the next level.

You have a background in managing engineering teams and are well-versed in agile development methods. You have a M.Sc. degree in computer science or equivalent experience. You have several years of experience managing software engineering teams, preferably in a product development setting rather than consulting.

At a high level, as Director of Engineering, you would be a key player in ensuring that Neo4j has the culture, processes, knowledge and skills to make the graph database category reach its potential and to retain Neo4j’s leadership as the world’s best graph database.

For this particular role within Cloud, you will excel with expertise and prior experience in cloud-native architectures, Software as a Service (SaaS) and delivery models. This includes:

• Cloud Platform Proficiency: Experience with major cloud providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), including understanding of their services, cost optimization, and security best practices.
• SaaS Lifecycle Management: A proven track record of managing the entire SaaS product lifecycle, from development and deployment to operations, scaling, and customer success.
• Distributed Systems: Strong knowledge of designing, implementing, and maintaining highly available, scalable, and resilient distributed systems in a cloud environment.
• Operational Excellence: Experience in building and leading teams responsible for site reliability engineering (SRE), incident management, monitoring, and automation to ensure high levels of service availability and performance for cloud-based database offerings.
• Security and Compliance: Familiarity with industry security standards and compliance requirements relevant to cloud SaaS and database services (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR).

The Role:

On a daily basis your activities and responsibilities include:

• Participating in standup meetings
• Getting a sense of progress and impediments
• Knowing what everyone is doing and how they are performing
• Reading and understanding team dynamics
• Reporting back to the rest of the organization
• Working with your team(s) and product management on feature delivery
• Hiring new members of the team
• HR work (salary, performance reviews, vacation, leave)
• Working on continuously improving processes in the organization
• Fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration

Neo4j engineering currently has around 280 members and is continuously growing. Engineering headquarters is in Malmö. There is also a development office in London and individual contributors working remotely. The commercial headquarters is in San Mateo, California and there are over 800 employees worldwide.
