Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you’ll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world’s most important challenges—striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond. Together, we advance your career. SMTS SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER Who you are: An experienced engineer to optimize and stabilize the existing HIP/ROCm compiler and runtime stack in support of HIP enablement on professional applications. With a focus on performance analysis, and targeted optimizations rather than new feature development or new GPU architecture bring-up. The goal is to improve performance, correctness, and reliability of real-world applications by addressing bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the compiler and runtime. You will have strong low-level debugging skills and the ability to understand how application workloads interact with compiler output and runtime behavior. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Review and analyze existing compiler and runtime code to identify performance and scalability bottlenecks Implement targeted optimizations in the HIP/ROCm compiler and runtime to improve real-world application performance Analyze generated GPU code (IR, ISA) to reduce register pressure, improve memory access, and increase occupancy Debug and resolve performance regressions and correctness issues impacting ISV workloads Use profiling and tracing tools to correlate application behavior with compiler/runtime inefficiencies Work closely with ISV enablement engineers to prioritize fixes based on application impact Collaborate with core compiler, driver, and hardware teams when deeper root-cause analysis is required PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 10+ years of professional experience in low-level systems, compiler, or GPU software development. Strong C/C++ skills with experience working in large, performance-critical codebases Solid understanding of compiler internals Strong knowledge of GPU architecture and execution models Proven ability to analyze disassembly / generated GPU ISA Experience debugging complex issues across compiler, runtime, and application boundaries Strong Linux development and debugging experience NICE TO HAVEEXPERIENCE: Experience with ROCm software stack Familiarity with AMDGPU backend and ISA Exposure to content creation, CAD, and simulation applications ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent #LI-CC5 #LI-Remote Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance. AMD does not accept unsolicited resumes from headhunters, recruitment agencies, or fee-based recruitment services. AMD and its subsidiaries are equal opportunity, inclusive employers and will consider all applicants without regard to age, ancestry, color, marital status, medical condition, mental or physical disability, national origin, race, religion, political and/or third-party affiliation, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, military or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We encourage applications from all qualified candidates and will accommodate applicants’ needs under the respective laws throughout all stages of the recruitment and selection process. AMD may use Artificial Intelligence to help screen, assess or select applicants for this position. AMD’s “Responsible AI Policy” is available here. This posting is for an existing vacancy.
