Senior Lead Clinical Governance Specialist (Remote) at Capita

About the Role
The successful candidate will lead the strategic and operational delivery of HAAS/TPDPS/PCSE Clinical Governance Standard Operating Procedures across Health & Welfare business units, ensuring robust clinical governance processes are in place to protect service users and maintain high standards of care. This includes strong leadership across safeguarding, clinical risk and incident management and service user safety.
What you'll be doing:
Clinical Risk and Incident Management
- Maintain and regularly review the Clinical Risk Register.
- Collaborate with risk owners to identify and mitigate strategic, business, and operational risks.
- Ensure risk controls are documented, monitored, and escalated when needed.
- Lead clinical risk review meetings to address existing and emerging risks.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of clinical incidents, including near misses and safeguarding concerns.
- Produce investigation reports with root cause analysis and action plans, approved by the Chief Medical Officer.
- Track incidents and update the risk register accordingly.
- Initiate internal verification processes and ensure completion and communication of improvement actions.
Safeguarding
- Lead on the development and implementation of safeguarding policies, procedures, and governance systems in line with Capita’s Group Safeguarding Standard.
- Represent the organisation in multi-agency safeguarding forums and contribute to the development of safeguarding strategies.
- Provide safeguarding supervision to Clinical Governance Advanced Functional Specialist.
Service User Safety
- Promote and uphold professional standards across clinical practice.
- Manage the review of clinical complaints to ensure health professionals adhere to their code of professional conduct.
- Oversee registration and revalidation processes.
Operational Leadership
- Line manage Advanced Functional Specialists within the Service User Safety Team.
- Exercise sound judgement in delegating tasks while remaining available for guidance.
- Demonstrate commercial awareness, including understanding of the business Target Performance Levels and Service Level Agreements.
- Performance manages aligned to the Clinical Governance Performance Matrix.
There is a contractual requirement to contribute 10% of your working hours per month to either complete PIP/WCA/SB assessments or the audit function in your specific area of approval.
What we're looking for:
Essential:
- Be an experienced UK registered Health Professional with a minimum of two years post-registration experience and current and unrestricted professional registration with any of the following bodies: GMC, NMC, HCPC.
- Approved HAAS assessor in either PIP or WCA/SB.
- Audit capable in either PIP or WCA/SB or willing/capable of completing and passing audit training.
- Evidence of achieving an 85% or above FFP quality performance or equivalent (there is a requirement this quality standard must be maintained in post as per the performance matrix).
- Demonstrable experience in risk management, risk control monitoring and escalation.
- Strong understanding of Clinical Governance and its function within the business.
- Have a detailed knowledge of the requirements of PIP and/or WCA/SB assessment process including the ability to think clinically, operationally & demonstrate commercial awareness for delivery.
- Have an in-depth knowledge of the physiological, pathological, social, and cultural issues which underpin Health and Welfare contracts.
- Experience of making difficult decisions under pressure.
- Maintain and evidence personal CPD and ensure continue professional registration.
- Have excellent written and verbal skills.
- Ability to build relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.

The Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS) arranges and carries out assessments for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Department for Communities (DfC).
The purpose of the assessment is to understand how an illness or disability affects a person’s daily life. After the assessment, the DWP/DfC makes the decision as to whether the individual will receive any benefits.
The Health Assessment Advisory Service is delivered on behalf of the DWP & DfC by Capita.
