Senior Microgrid Controls Engineer (Remote) at Eaton Electrical
Job Description
What you’ll do:
As part of our Microgrid Controls Team, you will design, develop, test, implement and commission Microgrid Control solutions consisting of Solar Photovoltaic (PV), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Diesel/Natural Gas and Generators for our customers, using Automation Controllers, HMI’s, Multi-function Protection Relays, and Data Concentrators from all major OEM’s. You will work independently on assigned project tasks with support and guidance from the Program Manager and other Microgrid Controls team members. You will work with multiple Eaton business groups as part of a project execution team to deliver a complete Microgrid power system solution while ensuring the project is delivered on-schedule and within budget.
In this role, you will:
- Create, modify, test, and deploy software for Automation Controllers and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI’s) for Microgrid applications.
- Follow customers, drawings and specifications and internal specifications for project implementation.
- Select components and create bill of materials.
- Prepare submittal documentation for projects and meet with customers to discuss project requirements and review submittals.
- Provide sketches, mark-ups, and direction to Electrical Designers to develop project drawings.
- Prepare customer submittals, Sequence of Operation (SOO), and test procedures.
- Review DER vendor submittals and coordinate control requirements with vendors.
- Collaborate with other Eaton business groups to ensure Microgrid solution meets design intent.
- Assist with factory testing and field start-ups as required.
- Troubleshoot systems that are not functioning properly.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution with minimum 3 years of experience in power distribution controls applications.
- Understanding of Electric Power Systems.
- Understanding of Microgrid operations.
- Understanding of DERs (PV, BESS, and Generators).
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Preferred qualifications:
- PE License.
- Knowledge of electrical distribution equipment and components (low voltage switchboards, low voltage switchgear, medium voltage switchgear).
- Knowledge of Power Monitoring and Control Systems.
- Knowledge of Industrial Communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC-61850).
- Knowledge of Automation Controller Programming (CODESYS, ladder logic, structured text, function block diagram).
- Experience with Inductive Automation’s Ignition (Perspective).
- Experience with Automation Controllers, SCADA and industrial networks.
- Experience with multi-function protection relay based controls.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical topics to varying audiences of internal and external stakeholders.
- Field experience working on electrical distribution systems/equipment in commercial and industrial sites and knowledge of electrical safe work practices.
