Position Overview
We are looking for a Senior Principal Machine Learning Engineer to help found and technically lead a new ML team in Bangalore within Autodesk’s Growth and Experience Technology (GET) organization. The GET ML team builds measurable AI solutions that drive Autodesk’s growth and deliver personalized customer experiences at scale. This role is pivotal: you will play a central role in defining the technical vision, standards, and culture of the team from the ground up.
This role goes beyond building and deploying models. You will act as a technical owner and thought partner, working closely with engineering, product, and research teams to shape how machine learning is applied across Autodesk’s go-to-market experiences. Autodesk follows a hybrid work model. You may work remotely or from an Autodesk office, with periodic travel as business needs require.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, deployment, and evolution of production machine learning systems across personalization, search, recommendations, and retrieval
- Define and drive the technical roadmap and architecture for end-to-end ML systems within GET
- Research, fine-tune, and apply large language models (LLMs) to enable forecasting, reasoning, and customer engagement use cases
- Act as a hands-on technical leader, setting a high bar for quality, reliability, and scalability
- Mentor and support engineers, fostering a culture of learning, curiosity, inclusion, and technical excellence
- Partner closely with product, design, engineering, and analytics teams to deliver solutions with clear, measurable business impact
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline
- 10+ years, applying machine learning, deep learning, NLP, or related techniques in production environments
- Demonstrated experience in technical leadership roles, including influencing architecture and technical direction
- Strong hands-on experience across the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle
- Proficiency in Python
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Personalization or recommendations
- Generative AI
- Conversational AI
- Experience mentoring or guiding other engineers
- A collaborative, respectful, and inclusive approach to working in diverse, global teams
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD in a relevant field
- Strong software engineering skills (Python, Java, C++, or similar) with experience building robust, scalable systems
- Ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
