Staff Software Engineer I – Control Plane Core Infrastructure at Confluent

📋 Description

• Own end-to-end architecture of complex control-plane systems for Confluent Cloud.
• Lead open-ended technical initiatives across teams and services.
• Improve reliability with observability, SLOs, runbooks, and safe rollouts.
• Collaborate across orgs (Cloud Platform, Kafka, Compute, Security, SRE) for designs.
• Mentor engineers; provide design reviews and help grow the team.
• Improve developer experience for the control-plane stack (CI/CD, tooling).

🎯 Requirements

• 6+ years in software engineering, backend, or distributed systems.
• Distributed systems and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms.
• Proficiency in Go, Java, or Scala; cross-team collaboration.
• Architect and executor: end-to-end designs with milestones and risk reduction.
• Operationally rigorous: SLOs, observability, incident response.
