Replicated is building a Customer Reliability Engineering (CRE) team of senior level engineers that help people to run and troubleshoot Kubernetes clusters and applications on Linux. CREs spend their days working with a variety of customer environments large and small, with diverse and complex needs. CREs understand Linux and Kubernetes at a deep level, and understand the Replicated product set down to the code. They develop the products and tools used by customers to deploy and manage applications. They work with core engineers across the Replicated product line on a daily basis and contribute to those products regularly.

Our entire engineering team is heavily involved in providing the best support experience to our customers, and everyone in engineering is engaged directly with customers. The Customer Reliability Engineering team specifically splits their time between assisting our customers with issues at their customers, and developing tooling to automate that support as well as making improvements to Replicated’s products.

This role is perfect for you if you enjoy problem solving, helping people, and digging deep into technical challenges every day. This team pairs programming expertise with operational knowledge to help scale best practices through tooling used by us and our vendors. This is a great role within the engineering organization to build a deep experience with Kubernetes, Linux, and open source development.

This role will be based in Australia.

What you'll be doing:

  • Work with our end users to remediate failures and find ways to prevent those failures from happening again. These issues can be Kubernetes problems, Replicated product issues, and everything in between.

  • Participate in helping customers get started with the Replicated product(s), assisting them along their journey to success.

  • Supporting customers in multiple ways: interacting via writing, video calls, contributing to documentation and community resources.

  • Proposing and implementing changes to the product that contribute to the prevention of recurrence of support issues, including bugs, documentation, and features.

To be successful in this role, you will need to bring:

  • Advanced experience with Linux system administration

  • Hands-on experience with deploying Kubernetes

  • Experience programming using Go and/or Javascript

  • Experience with Helm and other CNCF tools

  • Our systems are complex, and you bring your inherent passion to learn to the role

  • You have a growth mindset, the curiosity to learn, and commitment to a culture of psychological safety

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, both technical and general

  • Excellent English verbal and written skills

Nice to haves:

  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)

  • Contributions to open source projects or involvement with OSS communities

  • Customer facing experience

In your first 30 Days

  • Learn as much as you can about the company, team and product.

  • Complete hands-on training with the product, an onboarding checklist, and meet with team members from across the company.

  • Suggest improvements to the onboarding process as you notice rough edges, bringing your fresh perspectives to identify areas where we can do better.

  • Spend time with the team understanding our work and current initiatives.

  • Pair with members of the team to grow your knowledge of our product and ask questions to understand how we got to where we are.

  • Make at least one improvement to our products, review and approve numerous PRs from team members.

In your first 60 days

  • Contribute individual work to existing initiatives to deepen your understanding of Replicated products and services.

  • Shadow engineers in the support rotation, learning the process and making suggestions for improvements (both technical and procedural).

  • Examine the systems you are learning, seeking to understand the “why” and challenge the answers as appropriate.

  • Continue to grow your understanding of Replicated - how our products are developed, building relationships with individuals, how our services connect and interact.

In your first 90 days

  • Take a leadership role for one of the team’s priorities, coordinating within and beyond the CRE team to accomplish the goal as you see fit.

  • Join the on-call rotation as a fully fledged member, leading incident command and learning reviews as needed.

  • Continue to learn and grow. Replicated is committed to ongoing individual growth and there will always be opportunities that require it.

Note: This role does include some on-call support coverage. While we do our best to optimize for timezones and working hours, our team is still small and we want to make sure we are available for our customers when they need us.

In Australia, the salary range for this role is as follows:

Senior Customer Reliability Engineer I: AUS $215,000-246,000
