L3Harris’ Communication Systems segment is currently seeking a Senior Manager, Systems Engineering to join our team. This position will be based at our Rochester, NY facility and offers a Hybrid and 9/80 work schedule.
Position Overview:
This is a Level 6, Senior Manager, Systems Engineering position reporting to the Director of Engineering. This position offers candidates an opportunity to join and lead a fantastic team of engineering professionals who take a collaborative and team focused approach to developing and solving complex system solutions for our end customers in support of mission critical needs. This position provides leadership and technical guidance to the Systems Engineering department incorporating and working across diverse engineering disciplines to accomplish business goals and objectives in the creation, production, support, and promotion of industry-leading satellite communications products. Candidates for this position shall utilize a deep knowledge base and SATCOM experience to lead the Systems Engineering group and ensure products are developed, configured and/or enhanced as required to meet product line updates and releases, new product development schedules/milestones, and program deliverables.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Lead a team of project and system engineers that supports development, suistainment, and buisness pursuit activities across several SATCOM product lines.
• The ability to complete assignments on a self-directed basis with only high-level direction provided at the start of tasking.
• Develops, presents, and delivers comprehensive presentations to the project team, upper management, and customer personnel in a clear and concise manner.
• Collaborate with other design teams, test, manufacturing, product service, program and product management, and external customers to execute SATCOM product development projects and deliver high-quality system solutions.
• Establish strategic working relationships with engineering project managers as well as functional teams and technical leads.
• Ability to lead and guide new designs, modificaitons, and product concept definition and planning through production and release.
• Oversee product development technical activities to assure designs are technically sound and meet system level requirements.
• Help guide and prepare systems requirements, design reviews and documentation per standard development processes.
• Prepare and conduct technical briefings.
• Prepare and lead technical baseline reviews.
• Plans and manages schedules and budgets.
• Monitors the product/project from initiation through completion and/or customer acceptance.
• Ensures completion of the product/project on schedule and within budget constraints.
• Ensures that products/projects delivered meet customer requirements and specifications.
• Develops, manages, and maintains all aspects of project-level risks, including mitigation, costing, and planning.
• Engagement in project post-mortem reviews to assess future process improvements.
• Develops statements of work for subcontractors and ensures performance of those subcontractors.
• Provide leadership in the development of technical staff through strategic hiring, mentoring, and training.
• Estimates resource and personnell needs for the systems engineering group.
• Perform supervisory tasks such as setting Performance Objectives and conducting Performance Reviews, career development, RPM management, allocating work assignments, 1x1’s with direct and skip level reports, and reporting team status to Engineering management.
• The ability to draw on internal resources to generate accurate estimates for NRE and recurring costs.
• The ability to provide short-term technical support to internal and external customers when necessary.
• Develops, monitors, and statuses detailed MS Project schedules.
• Responsible for driving systems enigneering technical content, write-ups and estimations in response to proposals (RFP), information (RFI) and White Papers (WP).
Required (Basic) Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in managing a cross-functional / cross-discipline team.
• Secret security clearance desired.
• Experience with SATCOM VSAT and Man Portable (Manpack) Terminals.
• SATCOM product development experience from initial conception through design release and support of manufacturing readiness. Experience in leading product design & development efforts.
• Experience with Satellite Communications. Knowledge of and experience working with SATCOM systems, both End-to-End and single terminal side, RF networking and systems, wired networking, MIL-STD data links, and modems. Common modem types with preferred experience are iDirect, Comtech, Linkabit MPMs, and Viasat.
• Experience with engineering support of proposal development, technical writing, and business/program acquisition process.
• Experience with government contracting and logistical support.
• Experience with design for test and design for manufacturability techniques.
• Experience in Root Cause Corrective Action process and techniques.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a technical information environment.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Planning and organization skills.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $125,500 - $233,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
